Sleepy Hollow

DOWN & DIRTY:
Horror/Suspense: An 18th century constable travels to a small town to investigate several murders attributed to a headless horseman.

NITTY GRITTY:
Ichabod Crane (JOHNNY DEPP) is a constable whose forensic science investigations into crimes are not only ahead of their time, but also aren't well-received by the more conservative judicial system. A local magistrate (CHRISTOPHER LEE) sends Crane to investigate the report of several murders in upstate New York, where the victims have been beheaded.

Arriving in Sleepy Hollow, Crane meets its wealthiest citizen, Baltus Van Tassel (MICHAEL GAMBON), his second wife, Lady Van Tassel (MIRANDA RICHARDSON), and their daughter, Katrina (CHRISTINA RICCI), a young beauty who's immediately taken with him.

Crane meets with many of the local town leaders including Reverend Steenwyck (JEFFREY JONES), Doctor Lancaster (IAN McDIARMID) and Notary Hardenbrook (MICHAEL GOUGH). They inform him that the grisly deaths are at the hands of the ghost of a Hessian horseman (CHRISTOPHER WALKEN).

Being a man of science, Crane has trouble believing this, but he sees the work of the headless horseman firsthand. Crane discovers that the horseman doesn't kill at random or even when mildly provoked, Crane tries to figure out who or what controls him.

THE ENDING:
Crane finds out that Lady Van Tassel has control of the horseman through the possession of his skull. She wanted revenge against the Van Tassels because they took away their home when she was a child.

Now the horseman comes after Crane and Katrina. They hide in a windmill, but the horseman finds them. Crane sets the windmill on fire and they escape.

Katrina and Crane get the skull and head to the Tree of the Dead. They replace the skull in the horseman's grave and the headless horseman grabs Lady Van Tassel and they ride into
the base of the Tree of the Dead.
