Disturbing
Behavior
DOWN &
DIRTY:
Horror/Thriller: After his family
moves to a small town, a teenager
discovers a sinister secret
behind the behavior of a group of
near-perfect teens.
NITTY GRITTY:
After the suicide of his older
brother, Steve Clark (JAMES
MARSDEN) and his family move to
the small town of Cradle Bay.
When he shows up at the high
school, Steve meets 'stoner'
Gavin Strick (NICK STAHL) and his
albino buddy, UV (CHAD DONELLA)
who inform Steve of the school's
class system, where the
"Blue Ribbons"--- the
most popular and successful
students---rule over the other
students.
Gavin witnesses one of the Blue
Ribbons kill two people and not
be arrested by the town's head
cop, Officer Cox (STEVE
RAILSBACK). Gavin knows something
strange is happening, but no one
believes his paranoid story.
Even Steve doesn't believe Gavin,
he's more interested in Gavin's
loner friend, Rachel (KATIE
HOLMES). Chug Roman (A.J.
BUCKLEY), one of the Blue
Ribbons, is also interested in
Rachel, although she wants
nothing to do with him.
Soon Steve also notices the odd
behavior of the Blue Ribbons, and
gets suspicious when the school
psychiatrist, Dr. Caldicott
(BRUCE GREENWOOD), encourages him
to join the group.
Caldicott and the Blue Ribbons
eventually get to Gavin and turn
him into one of them.
Steve and Rachel sneak into an
old hospital and discover that
Caldicott is performing his
psychiatric experiments on the
town's teenagers.
THE ENDING:
Steve grabs his sister and he and
Rachel and UV head for the ferry
to get away from the town. They
are stopped by Caldicott and the
Blue Ribbons. Things look bad
until the school janitor (WILLIAM
SADLER) shows up with a giant
sonic pest repeller in the back
of his truck. Seems the sound
coming from the speakers drives
the Blue Ribbons crazy and they
swarm the truck to stop the
noise. The injured janitor then
drives his truck and the Blue
Ribbons over a cliff into a river
way below.
Steve and Caldicott get into a
fight next to the cliff and Steve
kicks Caldicott over the edge.
Then he hops on a nearby
motorcycle and joins up with
Rachel and the others on the
ferry.
But the movie doesn't end there.
It cuts to an inner city high
school where the students are
noisy and unruly. The principal
announces to the class that they
have a new teacher. The new
teacher writes "Move
Forward" on the blackboard
and then turns to address the
students. It is the new,
improved, former-Blue Ribbon,
Gavin. Dude!
WHAT EVERYONE WILL BE
TALKING ABOUT:
Who do they think
they're kidding, this movie was
based on my high school
experience.
