Election
DOWN &
DIRTY:
Dark Comedy: A popular high
school teacher goes bad when he
tries to undermine a student's
run to become class president.
NITTY GRITTY:
Jim McAllister (Matthew
Broderick) is a popular high
school teacher and student
government advisor. McAllister
loves his job educating the
students. All except for Tracy
Flick (Reese Witherspoon), an
ambitious, and peppy overachiever
whom McAllister can't stand and
usually tries to ignore in class.
Tracy had an affair with
McAllister's friend, Dave Novotny
(MARK HARELIK) thatcost him his
job and marriage.
The fact that Tracy is running
for student government president
would require close and constant
contact with him drives
McAllister crazy. So McAllister
seeks out a contender to derail
her unopposed campaign. He finds
Paul Metzler (CHRIS KLEIN), a
popular, but not
particularly bright athlete.
Paul's sister, Tammy (JESSICA
CAMPBELL), isn't happy with Paul
since her former
"lover,"
spurned her and has become Paul's
girlfriend. For revenge, Tammy
decides to enter the election
campaign.
THE ENDING:
Tracy in a fit of rage tears down
all the student campaign posters.
All three candidates
are called into McAllister's
office. Tracy lies and says she
doesn't know who did it.
Tammy confesses to the crime even
though she knows Tracy did it.
Tammy is disqualified from the
election and kicked out of
school. That leaves
Paul and Tracy.
The votes are counted and the
count shows Tracy winning by one
vote. Paul, being a nice guy,
didn't vote for himself.
McAllister can't believe it. He
has to confirm the count and he
throws away two of Tracy's votes
to make Paul the winner.
Paul is announced the winner and
Tracy can't believe it.
McAllister is called into the
principal's office. The janitor
found the thrown-away voting
slips and turned them in. The
principal asks McAllister what
happened, then forces him to
resign.
McAllister loses his job and his
wife kicks him out. He ends up as
a tour guide at a museum in
Washington DC. There, one day, he
spots Tracy. She's an aide to a
bigshot politician.
