He Got
Game
DOWN &
DIRTY:
Drama: A prisoner convicted of
murder has seven days to convince
his son, the number one high
school basketball player in the
country, to attend the Governor's
favorite college so that he can
earn an early parole.
NITTY GRITTY:
Jesus Shuttlesworth (RAY ALLEN)
is the number one basketball
player in the country. The top
colleges want him, the pros want
him, even his friends and
relatives want a piece of him.
He doesn't know what to do and
tries to sort things out, while
raising his younger sister, Mary.
He's taken over raising her since
his mother, Martha (LONETTE
McKEE), died, and his father Jake
(DENZEL WASHINGTON) went to
prison.
It's Jesus' promise in basketball
that gives his father a new
chance at life. Serving fifteen
years for Martha's death, Jake is
given a deal...convince his son
to attend the Governor's alma
mater and the Governor may
shorten his sentence. The problem
is, Jake only has seven days as
Jesus must make his decision by
then.
The bigger problem for Jake is
that his son wants absolutely
nothing to do with him, and has
little time to deal with his
attempts at reconciliation.
Jake returns to Coney Island
under the tight supervision of
two parole officers to try to
convince Jesus to do as he
wishes. Along the way, Jake makes
friends with a wayward
prostitute, Dakota(MILLA
JOVOVICH).
Jake races against the clock to
make amends with his son.
THE ENDING:
Jesus decides to go to BIG STATE,
the Governor's school, however,
the prison officials say that
Jake had nothing to do with his
son's decision, so the deal for a
shorter sentence is off. Jake
spends the rest of his days
shooting hoops in the exercise
yard.
WHAT EVERYONE WILL BE
TALKING ABOUT:
The way amateur athletes
are manipulated by BIG sports to
feed the machine for hot new
players.
