The Jackal
DOWN &
DIRTY:
Thriller: An F.B.I. official, a
Russian intelligence officer, and
a former IRA sharpshooter work
together to track down and stop
an assassin whose next target is
a high-ranking U.S. government
official.
NITTY GRITTY:
F.B.I. deputy director Carter
Preston (SIDNEY POITIER), and a
Russian intelligence officer,
Valentina Koslova (DIANA VENORA),
raid a Moscow nightclub where
Koslova ends up killing a Russian
gangster in self defense.
That man's brother, Terek Murad
(DAVID HAYMAN), wants revenge. So
he hires the Jackal (BRUCE
WILLIS), a renowned assassin, to
kill a high-ranking U.S.
government official for a fee of
seventy million dollars.
Preston gets word of this, and he
and others believe that the head
of the F.B.I., is the target.
Their problem lies in the fact
that they don't know who the
Jackal is, or what he may look
like. They do learn, however,
that Isabella (MATHILDA MAY), a
woman who's been in hiding for
years, might know of him.
Then they visit her former lover,
Declan Mulqueen (RICHARD GERE), a
former I.R.A. sharpshooter who's
serving time in an American
prison. Mulqueen also knows the
assassin and has a personal
vendetta against him. He agrees
to help find the Jackal in
exchange for Isabella's safety
and a reduction in his prison
time.
As Mulqueen, Preston and Koslova
search for clues, the Jackal's
plan continues to move forward.
Using various clever disguises,
the assassin purchases a large
automatic-firing gun, and slowly
makes his way to Washington, D.C.
As Declan and the others close in
on the Jackal, they race against
time to find him and stop the
assassination.
THE ENDING:
The Jackal's target is not the
FBI head guy, but the First Lady.
Mulqueen sees the Jackal and
stops the assassination. The
Jackal gets away but Preston and
Mulqueen chase him into the
subway. The Jackal gets the drop
on Mulqueen and is suprisingly
killed by Isabella.
WHAT EVERYONE WILL BE
TALKING ABOUT:
Richard Gere's laughable
Irish accent.
