The
Negotiator
DOWN &
DIRTY:
Suspense/Thriller: Chicago's best
hostage negotiator takes a group
of people hostage and must deal
with another experienced
negotiator while trying to prove
that he didn't kill his partner.
NITTY GRITTY:
Danny Roman (SAMUEL L. JACKSON)
is the best hostage negotiator on
the Chicago police force. Known
for his unorthodox ways of
dealing with terrorists, his
behavior irritates SWAT commander
Adam Beck (DAVID MORSE), while
worrying his friend and
associate, Commander Frost (RON
RIFKIN) and his supervisor, Chief
Al Travis (JOHN SPENCER).
Newly married, Roman agrees to
tone down his crazy demeanor. Yet
when his partner is killed after
investigating some embezzlement
of pension funds, Roman is framed
as the suspect in both matters.
Roman has no choice but to take
radical action. He takes internal
affairs Inspector Niebaum (J.T.
WALSH) hostage, along with Frost
and several others. Roman finds
himself poised against his own
police buddies.
Knowing that he needs time to
uncover the truth and discover
who's behind it, Roman demands
that Chicago's other top
negotiator, Chris Sabian (KEVIN
SPACEY) be brought in.
Aware of Sabian's nonviolent
track record, Roman realizes that
Sabian could be a powerful ally.
Although the two don't know each
other except through reputation,
they trust each other..
As Beck and his team move into
position around Roman's barricade
and the FBI shows up ready to
take over the operation, Sabian
races against time to diffuse the
explosive situation before Roman
and his hostages are injured or
killed.
THE ENDING:
Roman finds the files he needs to
clear him at Niebaum's home. The
SWAT team closes in and Frost
comes in to get Roman. Sabian
shoots Roman and 'cuts' a deal
with Frost, then plays back
Frost's confession to the other
cops. Frost is arrested . Roman
is shot but okay.
WHAT EVERYONE WILL BE
TALKING ABOUT:
Paul Giamatti as Rudy
the 'funny' hostage.
