DOWN &
DIRTY:
Action/Thriller: After being
double-crossed by his partner and
wife, a thief does everything he
can to get back the $70,000 they
stole from him.
NITTY GRITTY:
After stealing $140,000 from some
Asian mobsters, Porter (MEL
GIBSON) finds himself
double-crossed by his wife, Lynn
(DEBORAH KARA UNGER), who shoots
him in the back---twice, and by
his partner Val (GREGG HENRY) who
takes all the money to pay off a
debt to a criminal syndicate
called The Outfit.
Porter drags himself to a sleazy
doctor who removes the bullets
and Porter survives. Now he shows
back up in town and wants
revenge. Porter sets out to find
Val and recover his half of the
money.
Along the way he meets Stegman
(DAVID PAYMER) a minor criminal
who wants to be part of The
Outfit, who then tells Val that
Porter's not dead and is looking
for him.
Val, when not getting slapped
around by dominatrix Pearl (LUCY
ALEXIS LIU), seeks help from
Carter (WILLIAM DEVANE), one of
the Outfit's ranking members.
Porter looks up a former love,
Rosie (MARIA BELLO), a
high-priced hooker who services
the Outfit.
Porter pulls out all the stops
trying to get his money back, he
must not only deal with Val, but
also Outfit leaders Fairfax
(JAMES COBURN) and Bronson (KRIS
KRISTOFFERSON), the Asian
mobsters, and two corrupt cops,
who are blackmailing him for a
piece of the action.
THE ENDING:
Porter kills Van when he doesn't
cooperate. He and Rosie relocate
to a shady hotel room where
Porter finds the bed rigged to
explode when the telephone is
answered. They kidnap Bronson's
son to force the Outfit to pay
up.
Porter gets the cops to put their
fingerprints on his gun which he
used to kill Val. He also steals
one of their badges and plants it
at the crime scene. Internal
affairs comes looking for the
dirty cops. Bye-bye blackmailers.
Porter is grabbed by Bronson and
Fairfax and after some hammering
of Porter's toes, Porter tells
them where the kid is. They throw
Porter in the trunk and head up
to the hotel to rescue him.
Porter works his way loose and
rips through the back seat of the
limo. He grabs the car phone and
calls the hotel room. Except,
it's the first hotel room they
had, the one with the explosive
bed. Yep. A double-double cross.
Bronson picks up the phone and
all the bad guys are blown to
smithereens.
Porter drives the limo back to
the 'real' hotel and picks up
Rosie. They drive away with the
$130,000, happily ever after.
WHAT EVERYONE WILL BE
TALKING ABOUT:
The torture scene where
Porter recites the 'This Little
Piggy' rhyme.
