A Perfect
Murder
DOWN &
DIRTY:
Suspense/Thriller: A wealthy
businessman forces his wife's
lover to murder her, but then has
to cover himself when his plan
falls apart.
NITTY GRITTY:
Steven Taylor (MICHAEL DOUGLAS)
is a wealthy and powerful
businessman married to Emily
(GWYNETH PALTROW), a translator
and aide to the U.S. Ambassador
to the United Nations.
Their marriage is not working,
and Emily has been having an
affair with David Shaw (VIGGO
MORTENSEN), a struggling artist.
Steven knows of the affair and
forces David into agreeing to
murder Emily, offering to pay him
half a million dollars. It turns
out David has a prior criminal
record and Steven has information
that would send him to prison for
a long time.
David reluctantly agrees and
follows Steven's elaborate, and
seemingly foolproof plan.
The killer sneaks into the
apartment while Steven is away
playing poker with his buddies.
Emily is in the bathtub and hears
a noise in the kitchen. She
investigates and discovers the
killer who tries to bludgeon her
with a fry pan. They struggle and
Emily grabs a conveniently placed
meat thermometer and rams it into
the killer's neck. End of killer.
Steven listens to the attack over
his cellular phone and goes home
thinking Emily is dead. He enters
the apartment and finds Emily
injured and the killer dead. He
searches the killer and removes a
key and puts it back on Emily's
key ring.
The police show up and detective
Mohamed Karaman (DAVID SUCHET)
begins his investigation. While
questioning Steven in the kitchen
about the murder, Karaman removes
the ski mask covering the
killer's face. Steven
looks.....it's NOT David.
David is very much alive. He got
one of his old prison buddies to
be the killer. Now he wants the
rest of the money from Steven.
Steven gives David the money,
then follows him unto a train and
kills him.
THE ENDING:
Emily confronts Steven about the
missing house key (The key Steven
put back on her key ring was NOT
her house key). She also has a
tape recording David made of
Steven describing the murder
plan. They struggle and Steven
tries to kill her but Emily
shoots and kills him.
WHAT EVERYONE WILL BE
TALKING ABOUT:
That Michael Douglas is
soooooo much better as a BAD GUY
(Remember Gordon Gecko in'Wall
Street'?).
