DOWN &
DIRTY:
Action/Thriller: An international
group of criminals join forces in
an attempt to steal a mysterious
case with none knowing who hired
them, the motives of the others,
or the contents of the case.
NITTY GRITTY:
Deirdre (NATASCHA McELHONE) is a
mysterious Irish woman who
assembles an international group
of criminals in Paris for a
special mission. Joining
Americans Sam (ROBERT DE NIRO),
and Larry (SKIPP SUDDUTH), the
designated driver, are Vincent
(JEAN RENO), the French
coordinator, Gregor (STELLAN
SKARSGARD), the electronics
specialist, and Spence (SEAN
BEAN), the weapons specialist.
Other than Deirdre, none of the
team members know who's hired
them, the motives of the others,
or the exact details of the
mission, other than that they're
to ambush a multi-car caravan and
steal a case that's heavily
guarded.
After staking out their prey and
formulating their plan in Nice,
they strike and retrieve the
case. Sam notices that silver
paint rubbed off the case on his
jacket, so he throws the case
under a car and it explodes.
Gregor has the 'real' case and
he's gone. As allegiances change
at the drop of a hat, the team
members realize they can trust no
one.
As the members attempt to
retrieve the case and its unknown
contents, they discover that
others, including Russian
businessman Mikhi (FEODOR ATKINE)
and Seamus (JONATHAN PRYCE), also
want the case and will kill
anyone in their way.
THE ENDING:
Sam and Vincent team up and track
Gregor to an ice skating
exhibition. Gregor sells the case
to the Russian Mikhi and is then
killed. The featured skater
(KATARINA WITT) is shot by a
sniper and the audience panics
and runs from the arena making it
difficult for Sam and Vincent to
find the case.
The Russian is stopped in the
parking lot by Seamus and is
killed for the case. The police
close in and Sam sees Deidre. She
is waiting for Seamus. Sam tells
her to just leave or she will be
caught. She drives away.
Sam corners Seamus and is about
to be shot when Vincent kills
Seamus. The case is confiscated
by the police. Sam and Vincent
get away, but wonder what was in
the case that so many people died
for.
WHAT EVERYONE WILL BE
TALKING ABOUT:
What the heck was in
that case? Perhaps the briefcase
from 'Pulp Fiction'.*grin*
RUNNER-UP: The scene where DeNiro
instructs Reno on how to remove
bullets from his body.
