Rush Hour
DOWN &
DIRTY:
Action/Adventure: A reckless and
talkative American detective
reluctantly joins forces with a
Hong Kong inspector to find a
kidnaped girl.
NITTY GRITTY:
Inspector Lee (JACKIE CHAN) is
one of Hong Kong's leading police
officers. With the support of Han
(TZI MA), the Chinese consul, Lee
has recently helped confiscate
millions of dollars worth of
weapons, drugs, and priceless
Chinese artifacts previously
owned by Juntao, one of Hong
Kong's most powerful crime lords.
When Han is sent on a diplomatic
mission to the U.S., things
change quickly.
Seeking revenge for losing his
fortune, Juntao abducts Han's
daughter, Soo Yung (JULIA HSU),
and holds her for a large ransom.
Han summons his old friend Lee to
Los Angeles, but FBI agent Warren
Russ (MARK ROLSTON) doesn't want
any outside intrusion to
complicate the case. He assigns a
fast talking, reckless LAPD
detective, James Carter (CHRIS
TUCKER), to keep Lee away from
the investigation.
Carter finds out his big break
with the Feds is really just a
babysitting assignment, and he
sets out to solve the case on his
own. Of course he must also deal
with Lee, who gives his
smart-mouthed partner the slip
while trying to get into the
investigation.
After a series of
misunderstandings, Lee and Carter
join forces and, with the
assistance of bomb
expert-in-training, Tania Johnson
(ELIZABETH PEÑA), they get
closer to finding the girl.
Things get complicated when the
duo accidentally thwarts the
money-for-hostage exchange.
Consul Han's old friend, Thomas
Griffin (TOM WILKINSON), shows up
and has a vested interest in the
outcome of the kidnaping.
THE ENDING:
Turns out that Griffin is
actually the crime lord Juntao.
He arranges for another money
exchange at the Chinese Expo. Lee
and Carter sneak into the
celebration and rescue Soo Young.
Then Lee chases Griffin into the
rafters of the building where he
falls to his death. Lee falls
too, but is saved by a giant
cloth banner he uses as a slide.
For his help in the rescue,
Carter joins Lee on his return
trip to Hong Kong.
WHAT EVERYONE WILL BE
TALKING ABOUT:
The 'blooper' out takes
shown as the final credits roll.
