Snake Eyes
DOWN &
DIRTY:
Suspense/Thriller: A corrupt
Atlantic City cop tries to figure
out who assassinated the
Secretary of Defense during a
heavyweight boxing match.
NITTY GRITTY:
Rick Santoro (NICOLAS CAGE) is a
flamboyant and on-the-take
Atlantic City police detective
who meets Navy Commander Kevin
Dunne (GARY SINISE), a Department
of Defense staffer who happens to
be Rick's best friend, at a
heavyweight boxing match.
Dunne is in charge of providing
protection for the Secretary of
Defense, Charles Kirkland (JOEL
FABIANI), who is attending the
match. When Dunne goes off to
investigate a mysterious woman,
the Secretary is assassinated
right next to Santoro. Dunne
manages to kill the assassin.
Santoro immediately has the arena
sealed and quickly takes steps to
save his friend's career and his
investigation of the thousands of
fight fans who are all now
witnesses to the crime. Santoro
tries to sort out the answers
from key witnesses who may know
something about the murder.
Santoro looks at the videotapes
of the fight to find a clue. He
spots heavyweight boxing champion
Lincoln Tyler (STAN SHAW) take a
'phantom' punch right before the
shots were fired. Santoro finds
Tyler and grills him for more
information. Tyler admits that he
threw the fight and that a guy in
the stands who said 'Feel the
pain' was his signal to hit the
mat.
Santoro's investigation leads him
to Julia (CARLA GUGINO), the
mysterious 'blonde' who Santoro
saw talking to the Secretary
moments before he was shot. After
some cat and mouse games Santoro
finds Julia and locks her in a
part of the casino.
Julia told Santoro that a
conspiracy may be behind the
assasination. She had information
about some faked tests of a new
Navy weapon and she was going to
expose the scandal to Kirkland.
THE ENDING:
Santoro goes back and reviews the
videotapes of the fight again,
hoping for a break. He spots a
small blimp camera hovering over
the fight. He asks a technician
about it and is told that it is a
new camera they were trying and
no one knew about it. Santoro
asks to see the videotape from
the blimp camera. The videotape
shows Santoro's friend Dunne
waiting outside the fight and
then after the shooting moving
immediately to the assassin and
killing him.
Dunne and a couple of his thugs
grab Santoro and beat him up.
Dunne wants to know where Santoro
has hidden Julia. Santoro
'escapes' and heads for Julia.
Unfortunately, Dunne let him
escape and is right behind him.
Dunne finds the girl and is about
to kill her when he is suddenly
confronted by local police.
Instead of laying down his gun,
Dunne kills himself.
WHAT EVERYONE WILL BE
TALKING ABOUT:
What was the big deal
with the hurricane? So it rolled
a giant ball into a wall and
exposed the 'real' killer...so
what?
